Schlumberger Onsite Engineer - Control Systems in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia
Responsibilities
To provide multi-disciplinary technical and operational recommendations to the customer in the geo-unit, at the site or wellsite to ensure the safe and reliable operation of SLB supplied rig equipment.
Act as the SLB focal point for the client in the geo-unit and communicates and coordinates with the Product Owners involved in the Project as well as with the Well site coordinator and Field Service Engineer to provide technical support for troubleshooting.
The Rig Equipment SME will work closely with the Project Engineering Manager, other disciplines, departments, and other project support functions to execute projects in accordance with the as sold requirement and Client expectations.
Work closely with team members and other departments in project execution to ensure work is carried out within project specifications.
Evaluate customer enquiries and specifications and select or recommend equipment type, for the application. Includes determining the required scope of work to be provided and developing the best strategy to provide technical support.
Work with Vendors to size and select equipment to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list) to customer.
Works as a buffer between clients(s) and SLB engineering/project teams, to help decision makers on both sides understand the practical/operational impact of design choices, different equipment designs, technical/specification requirements
Attend client clarification and kick off meetings.
Attend Vendor bid clarification meetings, kick off meetings and design review meetings as required
Visit vendors and fabricators during pre-award, manufacture and factory acceptance testing
Develop in-depth knowledge of all SLB products and equipment and their technical design features and application.
Provide input to the “Lessons learned” process and utilize findings from the process to update tools and processes.
Manage and monitor operations communications with the goal of ensuring that stakeholders and service providers are kept informed.
Prepares and communicates accurate daily reports of all site/wellsite activities, in the relevant business system.
Monitors and supports local equipment repair/recertification at customer/vendor sites/plants as required, supports installation and commissioning of said equipment at customer sites onshore/offshore.
Provides system-based aftermarket technical support for rig equipment
Provides recommendations on the maintenance and operation of rig equipment, reviews maintenance records, identifies excessive, unnecessary or redundant maintenance practices
Works as a link between the KSA geo-unit and the Sustaining team, to facilitate interaction between the geo-unit, customer(s), and all other stakeholders to support key Sustaining business activities like Field Service deployment, rig equipment inspection/recertification and associated parts sales, and the development and deployment of hardware and software upgrades.
Provide full-lifecycle support for SLB rig equipment from installation and commissioning to decommissioning/obsolescence planning, ensuring SLB Rig Equipment stakeholders are made aware of opportunities for the replacement of obsolete equipment
Minimum qualification & experience
Bachelor of Science Degree (BEng or BSc) Or Master (MEng or MSc) Degree in engineering, or equivalent, with 10+ years’ relevant experience – Alternatively, drilling operations focused experience (drilling, casing, cementing, pressure testing, etc.), such as Mechanical and/or Electrical Maintenance or Operations Manager for a drilling contractor, with 20+ years relevant experience.
Preferred Chartered Engineer Status – Alternatively, Industry or Academic Certification in a relevant trade, ex. Millwright, Mechanical Technician, Electrician (basic experience and understanding VFDs, rig power systems, and automation systems (HMI, PLC, and PC) preferred).
Familiar with ASME B&PV Code Section VIII, Div.1/2, EN 13445 and PD5500 Code and ASME B.31-3 Standards.
Familiar with relevant API standards and recommended practices (ex. 8C, 8B, 7K, and 7L) and guidelines for pumps and other hoisting/rotating equipment.
Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design, shop fabrication procedures, inspection and NDE requirements, production pressure testing, shipping preparation and terms, and field installation and start-up procedures.
Practical, hands-on knowledge and operational experience with manually operated and automated rig equipment such as Iron Roughnecks, Drawworks, Automated Pipe Handling, Top Drive, and Mud Pumps – including, but not limited to basic design principles, manufacturing (component manufacturing, assembly, and factory testing), installation and commissioning, and operational use during drilling and other wellsite operations
Holistic, system-based experience with above noted equipment, with understanding of how all relevant technical disciplines (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, structural, and automation) interact during the operation of above noted equipment, and how a failure or problem in one subsystem may manifest in other systems.
Significant experience with witness inspections, performance testing and factory acceptance testing of rotating equipment.
Clear understanding of the various raw material types, grades and selection criteria.
