Schlumberger Process Engineer in Houston, Texas

The Senior Gas Process Engineer will lead the tenders, work with global multi-discipline team of engineers, supply chain and commercial team to provide a winning techno commercial solution. The engineer will act as lead process engineer during execution phase of the project and perform detailed process engineering calculations such as pump hydraulics, PSVs, blowdown, develop PFD, P&ID, cause and effect and lead Hazop. It is expected to work independently with minimal supervision.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage Front-End process engineering services. For example, oversee requisitions, technical bid evaluations and purchase order preparation

  • Manage process engineering project requirements

  • Participate in relevant meetings and prepare progress reports

  • Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes;

  • Provide advice during procurement, construction and commissioning activities

  • Act as the process engineering Lead on specific projects

  • Outline project requirements including actively promoting workshare, where appropriate, assign tasks and supervise progress; and

  • Ensure the required services meet their customers and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget

  • Proactively resolve any discrepancies between company and client requirements

  • Keep up-to-date with the latest developments and technical innovations in process engineering

  • If required, assist and support junior personnel within the process engineering team

  • Communicate effectively with the process engineering team and project stakeholders, including the client

  • Identify issues and problems and develop appropriate solutions.

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team as the lead process engineer and/or senior technical advisor for multiple projects

  • Develop the heat and material balance for new projects using process simulation tools

  • Create process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)

  • Perform equipment sizing calculations and prepare equipment data sheets

  • Lead and/or participate in safety reviews, HAZOP/PHAs, and PSM activities

  • Develop Design Basis for new projects

  • Develop Process Control Narrative document and support Cause & Effect document

  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and with clients, vendors, and contractors

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced designers and engineers (non-supervisory role)

  • Participate in the preparation of proposals for engineering

  • Perform feasibility/economic studies, conceptual designs, front-end design (FEL), optimization/de-bottle-necking studies

  • Provide technical guidance and information to mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and project engineering disciplines

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical engineering, with 7+ years experience in the design and selection of process equipment for the Oil and Gas Industry;

  • Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.

  • Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design, shop fabrication procedures, inspection and NDE requirements, shipping preparation and terms, and field installation and start-up procedures.

  • Experience / skill with multidiscipline project engineering functions.

  • Experience in the process design, process simulations, equipment sizing, and skid packaging of various gas technologies such as Amine, TEG, CO2 membranes, Silica Gel Systems, Molecular Sieve Systems, Mechanical Refrigeration and Cryo packages.

  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.

  • Preferred Skills

  • Utilizes knowledge and skills as substantial contributor. Organizes and manages multiple concurrent projects. Leads medium sized activities aligned with Schlumberger SETC.

  • Ability to size process equipment to meet design criteria.

  • Ability to produce PFDs and P&IDs.

  • Ability to create process simulations utilizing Schlumberger defined software.

  • Ability to size lines.

  • Knowledge of some materials of construction and their application.

  • Familiar with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 and 2 and ASME B31.3.

  • Familiar with applicable API guidelines.

  • Ability to convey mechanical design details to drafting personnel for the preparation of fabrication and layout drawings considering operability, maintenance and safety.
